Art post Ni ( 2 )

'aight before we get to my past art stuff that really should of been posted, I don't know, a week ago /stupid stupid me!/ quick correction to the past post, or rather specification, I shall be posting the titles of art posts in Romaji and English numbers. hmm...I feel as if I should post them in roman numerals instead of English...oh well.

on to the art-ish things.

Firstly this photo is crappy because: 1) I don't really know how to use a digital camera 2) I used flash instead of natural lighting

The concept for this Piece was conceal and reveal. like how even if you remove the mask a person is wearing to conceal their face it won't necessarily reveal the emotions that they are hiding underneath. This was done in .5 graphite mechanical pencil (my favorite material) and Prisma color colored pencils (cant remember the colors exactly...purple, red, pink...something like that).
What I find well done in this piece is the realistic shading in the face, hair, and eye. more the face and eye than hair. overall I love this piece, very very very rare for that to happen, but with all pieces their are flaws. in this it was pointed out that the mask was/ still is too flat. can be easily fixed with some time and patience

This was a study of a geode (even if it looks like PAC-man or some deranged fish) done in white charcoal and sketch crayons (brown, black, and white). This was rushed in about 2-3 hours so it is not as good as a lot of my other works. I do like how the inside of the geode (top left) looks sort of like crystals, and I also like the "complete" form (bottom right). the giant white mass in the center was the other side of the geode though it still needs more detail and more time spent on it.

ART post ichi (one) : Foreshortened Hand Study

This is the first of many AP art homework posts, each will post include the Japanese and English numbers corresponding to the post it is.

Now to the art.

The first is a value study of foreshortened hands done in ball-point pen. The strengths of this piece are the values, line quality, and accurate observations of the proportions and foreshortening. The composition is strongest on the right side where there are two linear hands coming off of the detailed hands. The reason being that the linear hands create interesting negative spaces and subtly unify the detailed hands.

This is the second, and last, piece for our last assignment, a self portrait done in graphite. Its strength is the line quality in the hair and the hand. The composition isn’t terrible and the proportions of the face could have been better. But overall it is not a bad drawing.

Until text time,
Russ

First

Ok so this is my first post [incert applause and cheers here].

WARNING! this blog will most likely have relly bad grammar/ spelling mistakes because I suck when it comes to that stuff...never been good at it.

/hopefully/ artwork and other info (what I'm working on, research, maybe some music I'm listening to, etc.) will be updated starting tomorrow, but for now just a quick bit about what I'm currently working on for school.

Alright, so our newest assignments for AP 2d/ drawing portfolio are a broken object from two diff perspectives, and something dealing w/ concealing and revealing. currently I'm working on the latter. It's going to be a Portrait with half a mask (like a masquerade mask) on and a breaking other half falling thus revealing the face behind the mask.

also here is a link to my deviantart account...nothing REALLY great up thar but check it out if you want. http://retsbew-nai.deviantart.com/

For now that is all,
Russ
